Mike Penning becomes Patron of ReachOut Plus
3rd August 2011
Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning, has become Patron of local charity ReachOut Plus which offers life-changing experiences for young people and the disadvantaged and disabled of all ages.
Mike joined one of the charity’s wide beam boats for a day trip last week. The trust’s wide beam boats, which are skippered by experienced crew, include many features that make them particularly suitable for the needs of people with disabilities.
Mike said:
“I am delighted to have been invited to be a Patron for ReachOut Plus which has its fleet of canal boats based in Nash Mills. I am very impressed with their work and I think offering a canal day trip or holiday to people who, for a variety of reasons, may have previously found such a trip beyond their reach is a great idea.”
Director Ron Overton said:
“I was so very pleased when Mike agreed to be a patron of ReachOut Plus. We support over 4,000 people every year, especially young people and those with special needs – including from our boat base in Nash Mills, Hemel Hempstead, part of Mike’s constituency. Having Mike Penning on board as a patron is an enormous encouragement to us. He is a role model for a local MP in so many ways and has huge respect in the community he serves – and beyond.
“We are always delighted to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer some of their time and skills to support what we do. If you can help please contact us on 0845 2160087 or through our website at www.reachoutplus.org”
