Mike Penning humbled at scale of support
7th May 2010
Mike Penning was re-elected as Member of Parliament for the Hemel Hempstead constituency last night achieving 50% of the vote and an incredible 13,406 majority. Labour were pushed into third place.
Speaking afterwards, Mike said:
“I am overwhelmed at this result. It's really humbling. It's a huge amount of trust that people have put in me.”
He went on to thank all those who had helped make the election run smoothly and who had helped him in his campaign. He said:
“I would like to thank the Council Chief Executive, officers and staff for their efficient running of the election and the speedy count – so much better than previous elections. I would also like to thank the Police and all other organisations involved.
“A big ‘thank you’ too to all those who have worked so hard in my campaign team: my agent, party volunteers, Councillors, supporters and, of course, my wife, Angie and our daughters.
“Finally, I would like to thank all those who voted for me. I am overwhelmed at the level of support and I will do my best to represent the interests of this constituency at Westminster and to help any resident who comes to me with their problems.”
