MP Congratulates Centarian
7th July 2006
Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning, enjoyed a cup of tea and a chat with Queensway House resident, Tess Gogins to celebrate her 100th birthday which was on 3rd July.
Mike apologised for missing Mrs Gogins’ birthday party as he had had commitments in the House of Commons. Mrs Gogins chatted about her life and told ex-fireman Mike Penning that her husband had been a fireman in the blitz in London during the war.
Mike gave Mrs Gogins a souvenir bear from the Houses of Parliament and invited a group from Queensway House to visit Parliament on one of their regular activity outings, an offer which was immediately accepted.
Afterwards Mike said:
“It was humbling and a thrill to chat to a lady who was so articulate and who has so much knowledge going back for so many years. I very much look forward to seeing them all at the House of Commons in the Autumn.“
