The evening was opened by Club Vice Chairman Bob Trevett and Club President Bernie Kelly. Chairman of the Hemel Hempstead Branch of the Royal British Legion, Royal Navy veteran Peter Gibbons, acted as Master of Ceremonies.
Mike Penning presented a cheque to Major Bob Fisher (retd), President of the Hemel Hempstead Branch of the Royal British Legion to go towards the Legion’s 90th anniversary celebrations. The local branch is planning a party for ninety 90-year olds on 18th August.
Mike said:
“We, in this country, owe much to our veterans who have served on our behalf. Indeed our servicemen and women are serving today in Afghanistan and in the past weeks in the enforcement of the UN’s no-fly zone over Libya.
“I urge recipients to wear their badge often and with pride. This is our eighth presentation evening and I am delighted that people are still coming forward to apply.”
If you served in the forces – in wartime or peacetime – you are entitled to a veterans badge. An application form can be downloaded from Mike’s website www.penning4hemel.com or call his office on 01442 450444.
