Mike calls for halt to enforcement at Moor End Road bus lane
8th September 2011
Local MP Mike Penning has called for a halt to enforcement of the bus lane in Moor End Road while signage is sorted out.
Commenting on information that ten thousand motorists have been fined as a result of a single camera since in less than a month, Mike said:
“Ignorance in the eyes of the law has never been a defence but when such an overwhelming number of motorists are committing the same offence, clearly something is wrong. It would seem obvious that some of the signage is not very clear.
“My personal opinion is that they should suspend any enforcement against people while they sort this out. They’re going to have to see sense and address this.
“Having a bus lane is not an issue as long as people know it’s a bus lane. It’s not for me to dictate if it’s a bus lane there, but it has to be signed right and it has to be morally right.
Mike has written to the County Council - who are responsible for the sign - about the matter.
