MP calls for review of paedophile sentencing

8th December 2009

Mike Penning has written to the Attorney General calling for a review of the sentence handed out to paedophile Colin Wray.

Mike Penning has called on the Attorney General to review the sentence handed out to a local paedophile who was convicted of a series of attacks on children that took place between 1978 and 1987.

Colin Wray was jailed for four years at St Albans Crown Court on Friday (4th Dec) for attacks on two children - some of which took place in Hemel Hempstead. It seems likely that he will serve only about 16 months.

Mike Penning said:
"It is ridiculous that this monster will probably serve just 16 months for what is actually just a handful of test cases. It can only be imagined what the true number of crimes committed by this man really are.

"It is irrelevant that they took place a long time ago, the victims have had to live with this all that time.

"I have written to the Attorney General calling for a review of the sentencing in this case."

For a number of years now, Mike has been calling for a debate in the House of Commons on leniency in sentencing guidelines.
