Buncefield: "Who is in charge?"

9th December 2006

As we approach the anniversary of the Buncefield explosion, it is still not clear who is in overall charge of the inquiry and reconstruction.

One year on from the Buncefield explosion and Hemel MP, Mike Penning, is still calling for a government Minister to make a statement to the House of Commons on the inquiry and reconstruction.

“…no Minister has come to the House since about the matter, even though it was promised that the House would be fully informed about the progress of the inquiry and the reconstruction” he told the House of Commons on Thursday.

Afterwards he said:

”It is incredible to think that we are now one year after the event and we still don’t know who was responsible for the explosion, who is going to pay the local authorities and who is in overall charge of the inquiry and reconstruction.

“Hundreds of local people have had their lives turned upside down as a result of this explosion, but no-one in government is taking overall responsibility.”
