MP says “Thank you” as more parcels sent to Afghanistan
11th February 2011
Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning, thanked local residents for backing the “Treats for our Troops” campaign as another batch of 200 parcels were sent on their way to Afghanistan.
Mike said:
“The response to the “Treats for our Troops” campaign has been overwhelming and I am delighted that we are able to send another batch of parcels. Our servicemen and women receive lots of parcels at Christmas so a parcel in February or March is an unexpected treat – which they well deserve.
“The people of Dacorum have been so generous that not only are we sending 200 parcels now, we have sufficient to send a further 200 in a couple of weeks’ time.
“I am genuinely touched by the level of support and I know that our donations are really appreciated. Our brave servicemen and women are in Afghanistan on our behalf and I know that it will be of great comfort to them to know that the people back home are thinking of them.”
Some of the parcels will be going to the Parachute Regiment which sadly lost two soldiers yesterday.
Mike will also be hosting another veterans evening in April. If you served in the armed forces – in wartime or in peacetime – you are eligible for a Veterans Badge.
Mike said:
“I urge every veteran of the armed forces to apply for a badge and to wear it with pride. Wearing it not only shows support for our veterans but also for the men and women currently serving in the front line.”
