Newly re-elected MP for Hemel Hempstead, Mike Penning, achieved an incredible 14.4% swing from Labour to Conservative in Thursday’s General Election. Mike increased his majority from 499 to a stunning 13,406. Labour – who held the seat until 2005 – were pushed into third place.
According to number crunchers at popular election blog, UK Polling Report, Mike achieved the biggest Labour to Conservative swing in the country.
Mike Penning said:
“I am still reeling in shock at the scale of this result and am absolutely delighted. I am overwhelmed at the level of support, it’s a huge amount of trust that people have put in me. I pledge to honour that trust and do my best to represent the interests of this constituency at Westminster and to help any resident who comes to me with their problems.”
(Note: swing calculated on a notional result for 2005 to take into account boundary changes where Felden and Bourne End transferred to South West Hertfordshire. The notional majority in 2005 used by UK Polling Report was 181)
