Mike Penning deplores sale of copy veterans badges on eBay
11th March 2011
MP for Hemel Hempstead, Mike Penning has deplored the sale of copies of HM Forces veterans badges on eBay.
Army veteran, Mike, said:
“It is a sad day when people are trying to make money by passing off copies of veterans badges to unsuspecting individuals in this way. I have written to Defence Minister Andrew Robathan MP and he has promised to investigate.
“Veterans badges are available free of charge to anyone who has served their country whether in wartime or peacetime. There is no need for any genuine veteran to buy a copy on eBay.”
In his reply, the Minister confirmed that it is illegal to make and sell reproductions of the badge as it is protected as a Registered Design. The matter has been passed to the Defence Intellectual Property Rights team who are to investigate.
