Mike Penning MP to lead village sponsored walk
12th June 2012
Mike Penning, Member of Parliament for the Hemel Hempstead constituency which includes Markyate and Flamstead, will join Mayor of Dacorum Bert Chapman to lead a sponsored walk to raise money for the Markyate and Flamstead Care Group next month. The Care Group needs to raise £5,000 to buy a new minibus to enable its valuable services to continue.
The sponsored walk will take place on Sunday 15th July at 10am and the organisers are calling for more walkers to take part. The five-mile route will take in some of the beautiful countryside around the villages and starts at Hicks Road Car Park, Markyate.
Mike Penning MP said:
“My wife, Angie, and I have enjoyed this annual walk for several years now and I would encourage anyone take part. It is not an arduous distance and is a pleasant morning out – and usually ends up in the pub!
“It is a very worthwhile local cause and is a real help to those who use the service provided by the group.”
The Markyate and Flamstead Care Group is a small group of volunteers who offer help to anyone in the villages who has difficulty getting to the doctor, dentist or hospital appointments. They also organise shopping trips, local outings and transport people to the lunch club in Markyate.
