MP praises youth project
12th August 2011
Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning has highly praised young people who carried out landscaping work outside the new XC (Xtreme Connexions) building at Jarman Park.
The work was carried out by 16 year olds as part of the ‘Summer of a Lifetime’ project which is delivered in Hertfordshire through Youth Connexions.
The project is part of the Government’s National Citizen Service programme aimed at bringing young people from different backgrounds together to make a difference in their communities and is supported by Prime Minister David Cameron who eventually wants to give every 16 year old in the country the opportunity to get involved.
The new landscaping was officially opened by BMX champion Mike Mullen.
Speaking afterwards, Mike said:
“I was so proud of the achievement of the young people involved in this project. What a complete contrast to the appalling events we have seen on television over the past few days.
“If ever there was any doubt, this project can dispel any preconceptions about young people. The young people involved in this project have done a great job and are a credit to our country.”
