Mike Penning and Commons team victorious in tug-of-war
13th June 2012
Mike Penning, Member of Parliament for Hemel Hempstead, and fellow team members of the Commons tug of war team beat the House of Lords in the 25th annual Macmillan Lords v Commons tug of war yesterday.
Mike Penning was joined by fellow MPs including Conservative Alec Shelbrook, Labour’s Karl Turner and the SNP’s Angus MacNeil.
The competition took place in the beautiful setting of Westminster Abbey’s College Gardens and raises money for Macmillan Cancer Support. This year the organisers are hoping to raise £100,000 through corporate sponsorship of the event by Taylor Wimpey.
Macmillan Cancer Support funds nurses and other specialist health care professionals and builds cancer care centres. They also fund an advice line and campaign for better cancer care.
Mike said:
“I am absolutely delighted that we won the Lords v Commons Tug of War. It is a fun event on behalf of a serious cause. Macmillan Cancer Support does a tremendous job and I am very pleased to be able to support them in this rather unusual way!”
