Local MPs visit Independent School

17th March 2006

Mike Penning and David Gauke visited the Rudolf Steiner School in Kings Langley.

Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, and David Gauke, MP for South West Herts, today visited the Rudolf Steiner School in Kings Langley.

The two MPs discussed the ethos and approach of the school with pupils who are preparing to take the A levels. The MPs were taken on a tour of the school and discussed education issues with members of staff and parents.

The education system at the Rudolf Steiner is based on the Steiner philosophy of developing the “whole child” with an emphasis on creativity. Children are measured not against each other, but against their own potential.

The Steiner Waldorf School Fellowship in the UK has been campaigning for public funding for its schools.

After the visit, Mike Penning said:
“I was most impressed by the schools ethos of self-achievement for their pupils and the care, love and dedication of the teaching staff.”

David Gauke added:
"The school has a very distinct ethos which results in contented and well-rounded pupils and teachers with a great deal of job satisfaction. It provides a strong argument for giving teachers greater freedom and increasing diversity in education."
