MP congratulates Dexion pensioners on campaign success
17th December 2007
Mike Penning has congratulated the Dexion pension campaigners on securing a deal worth 90% of their lost pensions.
Hemel MP, Mike Penning, has welcomed the Government’s announcement to restore 90% of the value of pensions to people who lost their pensions when their companies went bust. The ruling affects 140,000 people across the country including Hemel’s Dexion workers.
Mike said:
”This is excellent news and I congratulate the Dexion pensioners on the successful outcome of their long and sustained campaign. Such a positive outcome would never have been achieved if it wasn’t for the dedication and commitment of these campaigners. I had never been on a demonstration in my life until I joined the Dexion workers at one of their demos and the more I heard their personal stories, the more I supported their case. It is heartening to know that people power can make a difference. This is a real victory for natural justice.
“It is totally unacceptable that hardworking, honest people have had to go through this. These people did the right thing and saved for their pensions only to have it all taken from them at the last minute. Thankfully they can now put all that behind them and look forward to a happy retirement.”
