Dream comes true for Anne
20th April 2012
Mike Penning, MP for the Hemel Hempstead, made a dream come true for local resident Anne Skidmore when he arranged for her to present a home-made gift to Prime Minister David Cameron.
Anne, who lives in Hemel Hempstead, is a regular visitor to the Waterside Centre in Kings Langley. The Waterside Centre is a charity that provides a relaxed and stimulating environment where adults with learning disabilities can socialise, learn new and maintain existing skills and, most important of all, enjoy a good quality of life that commands respect, dignity and choice.
Anne presented the Prime Minister with a colourful cushion she had made at the centre.
Anne was escorted by Elaine Precious of Mencap Dacorum who said:
“Anne was extremely excited to meet the Prime Minister and present him with her cushion. This really was a very special day for all of us.”
David Cameron chatted to Anne about the project at the Waterside Centre and also about Mencap and how the charity had been very helpful with his son.
Mike Penning said:
“I am delighted that the Prime Minister was able to find a couple of minutes in his very busy day to meet Anne. She had gone to a lot of trouble to make the cushion for him and it was very special for her to be able to present it to him personally.”
Anne also met Chancellor George Osborne and attended a debate in the Chamber of the House of Commons.
