Mike Penning MP welcomes longer sentence for baby batterer
21st December 2012
Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning, has welcomed a longer sentence for a local resident who beat a baby girl so badly that she has been left blind, deaf, incontinent and needing care for the rest of her life.
The man, who was living with the baby’s mother at the time in Hemel Hempstead, has had his jail sentence increased by 50%.
Mike Penning who had written to the Attorney General and persuaded him to refer the case to the Court of Appeal said:
“I welcome the additional jail term but have to say that I still think even 15 years is not enough. I feel they should lock him up and throw away the key but at least the system has worked.
“This is a heartbreaking case and so very sad.”
This is the second case time that Mike’s intervention has secured a longer sentence.
