Parking Wardens should give themselves a ticket!
22nd November 2012
Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, is calling on local parking wardens to set an example after receiving numerous complaints from residents and businesses in Kings Langley.
Local traders are furious at the arrogant behaviour and cynical tactics deployed by Dacorum Borough Council’s contractor Vinci Park Services who regularly park illegally themselves, in the bus stop, disabled bays and across gateways – even when there are legal parking spaces available.
The traders feel their village is being unfairly targeted as the wardens regularly arrive just minutes before the end of the restricted parking time to start ticketing offenders. In some cases they have been witnessed attempting to issue tickets even after the restrictions have come to an end.
Mike Penning said:
“Whilst it is true parking wardens are permitted to park on double yellow lines to carry out their duties, this is usually permitted only when no other option is available. In the photographs I have seen there are legal spaces available nearby.
“Both I and local traders fully support the work of our parking wardens, as without enforcement our parking restrictions wouldn’t work, but I do call on them to use common sense and to set an example rather than take a ‘we can do whatever we like’ approach.”
