MP backs Help for Heroes Coast to Coast walk
27th September 2010
Mike Penning MP joins Neill and Thomas Grange as they prepare for Coast to Coast fundraising walk for Help for Heroes.
The MP met the walkers Neill Grange and his son, Thomas, at Hemel Stags Rugby League Club on Friday (24th September).
Neill and Thomas will walk from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood Bay in Northumberland (220 miles). They aim to start on 15th October and complete the walk in about 8 days.
Neill, whose eldest son is serving with 39 Regt Royal Artillery, and is due to leave for Afghanistan in April, said:
“As an ex-serviceman myself I know what these brave lads have to endure – they should receive all the support they can get from us at home. Also a member of the club who is in the Royal Marines was recently injured in a bomb blast in Afghanistan, which brings it all much closer to home.”
Mike Penning said:
“I urge anyone who can to sponsor Neill and Thomas. I am passionate about supporting our armed forces – both in Afghanistan and when they return. Help for Heroes does great work with our returning troops and I am delighted that local people are taking it upon themselves to organise fundraising events.”
