31st January 2011
Mike Penning officially launched the revamp of Johnson Cleaners' eco-friendly 'GreenEarth' store on Friday.
Hemel Hempstead residents can now dry clean the eco-friendly way following a local investment of £12,000 by Johnson Cleaners, the UK’s largest dry cleaning company.
Mike Penning officially launched the store within Sainsbury’s on London Road as a ‘GreenEarth’ store on Friday, January 28th.
Mike said:
“I am delighted that Hemel Hempstead now has the first dry cleaners in Hertfordshire that offers GreenEarth cleaning.
“I am sure that many local residents will be pleased to know that there is now an eco-friendly option available and I am sure the investment by Johnson’s will pay dividends.”
“I enjoyed my visit and meeting with the friendly staff and wish the venture every success.”
The launch comes as part of a national £6 million programme by Johnson Cleaners to convert its entire estate to eco-friendly ‘GreenEarth’ technology.
The innovative technology uses a liquid silicone cleaning solvent derived from natural sand; the same ingredient as used in many everyday shampoos, conditioners and lotions.
Proven to be kinder to skin and clothes, the solvent breaks down easily into natural elements if released into the environment.
Local branch manager, Claire Jones, has worked for Johnson Cleaners for 28 years, she said: “The branch will be using the latest eco-friendly equipment and the shop front and interior has also been transformed.
“A lot of hard work has gone into refurbishing the branch and we’ve all received additional training on the benefits of using greener cleaning technology.
“Our convenient location at Sainsbury’s is good for business, as people can drop off and collect their cleaning while they do their shopping.”
Johnson Cleaners is the only dry cleaning company in Hertfordshire with a licence to offer GreenEarth cleaning, which is available for the same price as traditional dry cleaning.
Paul Ogle, managing director of Johnson Cleaners, said: “The re-launch of our Hemel Hempstead store is part of a nationwide programme of transformation across all our branches and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to investing in the future of the business.
“Our customers are demanding more environmentally-friendly products and services and, as the market leader, we take our responsibilities seriously – to our staff, customers and the environment where we live and work.”
