Mike Penning congratulates winners of Tiffin Cup nomination
15th April 2013
Hemel Hempstead constituency MP Mike Penning visited the winner and runners-up of the local competition to select the best South Asian restaurant to represent the constituency in the national round of the Tiffin Cup competition.
The Tiffin Cup is an annual competition awarded by a cross-party group of Members of Parliament called the Tiffin Club. The aim of the competition is to celebrate the quality and diversity of South Asian food in Britain and at the same time raise money for the charity World Vision.
Each MP can nominate the best South Asian restaurant in their constituency. The best of these go forward to a national final which takes place at a special cook-in at Bellamy’s Restaurant near the Houses of Parliament.
The Hemel Hempstead nomination was won by Sitar in St John’s Road, Boxmoor with runners up Cinnamon Lounge in Kings Langley and Sahara in Gadebridge.
Mike Penning said:
“The Tiffin Cup is a great initiative to help promote South Asian cuisine and we have many excellent restaurants in Dacorum. I am delighted to present the banner to Sitar and with them the very best of luck in the national competition.”
The national winner last year was The Indian Ocean in Epping Forest constituency. The local nomination was Saffron, High Street, Hemel Hempstead which received a “Highly Commended” in the national round.
