Silver Sunday

Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning joined Home Instead Senior Care to celebrate Silver Sunday with afternoon tea at Grovehill Community Centre Sunday 5th October.
Organised through the Sir Simon Milton Foundation, Silver Sunday is a national celebration of older people and their contribution to communities. Through a variety of free activities, Silver Sunday is offering people over 65 a chance to keep active in body and spirit, try new things, meet their neighbours and, ultimately, overcome loneliness.
Silver Sunday was launched in 2012 by The Sir Simon Milton Foundation and Councillor Christabel Flight, after a report discovered more than a third of people over 75 said they were lonely. The aim was to celebrate older residents and to help them get out and about and meet new people.
Mike Penning said:
“I commend Silver Sunday as a great idea to celebrate the contribution of older people to our communities and it was great to talk to Jeremy Lane about the excellent work of Home Instead in the local area.
“We all have a lot to learn from older members of our communities who have wide and varied skills and experience. This is a great initiative.”
Jeremy Lane, owner of Home Instead Hemel Hempstead said:
“We are delighted to welcome our MP to celebrate Silver Sunday with older members of our community.”
The event was supported by a wide range of local organisations offering help and advice.
