Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning is calling for local teenagers to get involved with the National Citizen Service (NCS) this year.
Every 15 – 17 year old from the area is invited to sign up to the programme, designed to help young people prepare for the future.
Mr Penning said:
“NCS is an amazing opportunity for young people and I’d really encourage my constituents to join up.
“It gives teenagers the chance to discover their strengths and make lots of great new friends.”
‘A wonderful opportunity’
More than 130,000 teens have taken part in the programme nationally so far. It begins with a trip to an activity centre, where teens take on a series of outdoor challenges such as kayaking, rock climbing and high ropes.
Young people are then invited to a series of workshops where they develop key skills for work and life, such as CV writing, interview techniques, cooking, budgeting and independent living.
The programme ends with a community project, where teens work together to help a cause within their local area.
Mr Penning said: “As well as looking great on CVs and university applications, NCS gives young people the chance to really ‘give back’ to the community.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for teens to do good for a cause they’re passionate about.”
