Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning, started a sponsored cycle-ride to raise money for Home-Start Dacorum.

Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, was up early on Sunday morning (27th March) to start volunteer fundraisers on a cycle-ride of Dacorum’s boundary to raise money for Home-Start Dacorum.

The ride began at Breakspear Park at 8am and continued for most of the day, before returning in the afternoon.

Mike said:
“I was delighted to start the cycle-ride – even at 8 o’clock on a Sunday morning! Home-Start Dacorum does a fantastic job helping people bringing up young children. As a father myself I know only too well the stresses and difficulties involved – although thankfully my own daughters are now in their late teens.

“There is much more mobility these days and many young parents find themselves living a long way from their own families and they don’t have the support of grandparents and extended families that people did in the past. Organisations such as Home-Start Dacorum fill that gap and I wholeheartedly support their work.

“I cannot praise highly enough the volunteers who gave up their Sunday to cycle such a long way to raise money for the charity.”

The event was organised by volunteer Nick Hexter.

“Nick has invested a huge amount of time and effort in this ride and successfully completed it. Home Start values all the work and effort put in by our volunteers and really appreciates Mike's attendance in launching the event and his continued support of us.”
