Local MP Mike Penning joined Dacorum Mayor Councillor Roger Taylor along with England Women’s International scrum-half La Toya Mason and Keven Barrett England 7s & Saracens international scrum half at the annual Hertfordshire Girls Sevens rugby tournament on Sunday (8th May).
The weather was perfect with rain softening the pitches Friday Saturday and not to hot on Sunday.
Over 400 girls played rugby from 12 to 18 from 36 teams. Teams had travelled as far as Worcester and Bournemouth to take part.
Camelot girls played some very exciting rugby and in true Camelot fashion never gave up! Considering this is a new girls team formed only at the beginning of the year (February) for most of the girls this was their first competition and first time to play 7s Rugby. The Girls Coaches Stuart Gavigian & Craig Gavigian said “that they are so proud of the girls commitment and hard work to be at this Tournament and compete at such a high standard in such a short time.”
The Event organiser and Club Executive member, Colin Nunn said after the event that “although it was a lot of hard work we had a great day and which was due to the support from many club members who all pitched-in as well as the Referees from the Herts Society to make this a very successful celebration of girls rugby”
