Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning is backing two friends and former pupils of Hemel Hempstead school who are leaving next week on a fundraising 365 mile cycle ride from Stoke Mandeville Hospital to Paris.

On Wednesday 8th June, Clive Todd and Lee Snailham will set off on their marathon cycle ride hoping to raise funds to help adapt the home of school friend Lewis Pluck who became tetraplegic following a car accident in the winter of 2009.

Lewis Pluck, originally from Hemel Hempstead, will never regain any movement or feeling below his chest after the accident on the A413 in Buckinghamshire. After 10 years’ service in the Metropolitan Police Service, Lewis will have to leave his job in August as his condition has made his role untenable.

“Lewis has been strong and determined through a very tough time, but this is just the beginning of a long road of rehabilitation. He and his family need help and support to adapt their living environment to enable Lewis to be as independent as possible”.
