Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, will welcome a group of volunteers from Adeyfield to the Houses of Parliament shortly, thanks to a donation from Hemel Hempstead Lions Club.
The volunteers run a seniors coffee morning called ‘Coffee Mates’ at Adeyfield Community Centre. Mike Penning recently attended one of their coffee mornings and invited the volunteers to visit Parliament. Thanks to a £275 donation from the Hemel Lions, this trip is now possible.
Mike said:
“I am extremely grateful to the Hemel Lions for their donation. I am delighted that the hard work and long service of the ‘Coffee Mates’ volunteers can be rewarded in this way.
“Hemel Lions do an incredible job raising money for local causes. Last year they raised £25,000 thanks in part due to their hugely successful book shop in the Marlowes Centre.
“They also help me every year with the ‘Treats for our Troops’ shoebox parcel campaign for which I am extremely grateful.”
The Hemel Hempstead Lions Club is one of 44,000 clubs worldwide part of the Lions Club International. Hemel Lions meet twice a month for a couple of hours and are keen for anyone interested to come along. For more information contact Barbara Daniels on 01442 251640.

“It is very rewarding putting something back into the community in which you live. Unlike larger charity organisations, you can have a real say in how the money is distributed and you can see first-hand the difference it makes.”
