Mike Penning, Member of Parliament for Hemel Hempstead, opened a new exhibition at Frogmore Paper Mill in Apsley on Friday 29th June.

The exhibition is called Blitz and Beyond and examines the story of the industrial fire brigade from its early beginnings, through the war years and up to present day.

There is also an area designated to the effort put in by John Dickinson & Co and its employees during the war years and the effect it had on local people and history.

Mike Penning, a former fireman himself is Patron of the Paper Trail’s Heritage Fire Brigade.

Mike Penning said:
“I am delighted to open this fascinating exhibition – and especially by means of sounding the “All Clear” on a Second World War siren! Dickinsons was such a dominant force in Apsley and Nash Mills and it is very interesting to learn about their contribution during the war.

“I would urge everyone with an interest in local history to go along.”
