Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning is delighted with the new memorial to local soldiers who have died for their country since World War II.
Funding for the new memorial was raised through an appeal launched last year jointly by the MP, the Mayor of Dacorum, the Royal British Legion and the Hemel Hempstead Gazette and the design was chosen by way of a competition which was won by Potten End resident, Mrs Maura Gillespie.
Mike Penning said:
“I am absolutely delighted with the memorial and have received many positive comments. I was particularly pleased that it was able to be installed before the Remembrance Day services last weekend.”
He added:
“I was very moved by the huge turnout in Marlowes last weekend. I am proud that so many local people turnout each year to pay their respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It is particularly poignant in a year when we have lost another local son - Senior Aircraftman Ryan Tomlin who died in February. They will not be forgotten.”
Mike is pictured with Mrs Gillespie’s children, Zak and Zara at the new memorial in Marlowes.
