Mike Penning has expressed concerns that loss of 160 nursing and midwifery posts condemns plans to reopen Hemel Birthing Unit.

"Latest news that 160 nursing and midwifery posts are to be lost in West Hertfordshire surely condemns promises of reopening of the Hemel Birthing Unit," he said.

"How can they lose 160 key staff and still go ahead with the reopening of this award-winning unit? I really feel for the nurses and midwives whose jobs will be lost."
