Mike Penning offers his congratulations to 'Meals on Wheels' volunteers as it reaches its 60th year!
As ‘Meals on Wheels’ marks its Diamond Jubilee Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, congratulates all who have helped make the organisation so successful.
Mike said:
“Meals on Wheels has become a great British tradition - providing regular hot meals to many people in our community who rely on the support of volunteers for well cooked food and a bit of company. What a fantastic achievement to reach its Diamond Jubilee.
“I wholeheartedly praise the volunteers who run this service throughout the year."
‘Meals on Wheels’ marks its Diamond Jubilee this year, and National Meals on Wheels Week will run from Monday 1st to Sunday 7th October with the Mayors for Meals Day taking place on Wednesday 3rd. The aim of the week is to draw public and government attention to the important role the Meals on Wheels service, organised by members of The National Association of Care Catering, plays in looking after the most vulnerable members of our community – primarily older people.
Over 40 million meals on wheels are served annually to about 200,000 recipients.
