Mike Penning was full of praise for fire crews and police for their handing of today's massive fire at Holywell Haulage.
Hemel MP, Mike Penning, was full of praise for fire crews from all over the county for their professionalism in handling today’s explosion and fire at Holywell Haulage in Maxted Road.
A former fire fighter himself, Mike visited the scene. He said: ”This is a major fire, and because it is close to Buncefield it has attracted a lot of attention. Many people will have seen the plume of smoke which was reminiscent of Buncefield. I could see it from my home in the old town.
“However, there is no risk to Buncefield in this case, the firefighters have done an excellent job in containing the fire and deserve high praise for their hard work and dedication. The evacuation ran smoothly and most people who had been evacuated were allowed back in reasonable time.
“It is a timely reminder to the rest of us to appreciate the work of all our emergency services. They are there for us 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and whilst we are enjoying Christmas turkey at home with our families, they will be on duty to ensure our protection over the festive season.”
