Mike Penning has called for the old High Street to be made one-way and for a new taxi rank to enable regeneration of the area.
The old High Street in Hemel Hempstead is one of the most attractive parts of the town and a great asset. It should be utilised to maximum advantage. That’s the view of Hemel MP, Mike Penning, after he met with local traders in the area.
Mike said:
“There is so much potential for cafés, restaurants and Summer events that the area could become a real focal point for entertainment in the town. I agree with local traders that if the road were made a one-way street, it would free up space for additional parking, pavement cafés and a much-needed taxi rank.
“Many of these ideas have been on the drawing board since I first came to the area and it is time that they were put into action. The traders of the Old Town need our support on this before it’s too late.
“I will be writing to the Chief Executive of the County Council calling for urgent action to make what are really quite basic changes. The Old Town offers a wide range of pubs and restaurants and would benefit enormously from better transport access.”
