Mike Penning MP has put his name to a House of Commons motion condemning the BBC for refusing to broadcast the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Gaza Crisis Appeal.
Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning has signed an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons condemning the refusal of BBC and Sky to broadcast the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Gaza Crisis Appeal.
Mike said:
“I accept its not the job of politicians to tell the BBC what to do, but I am very surprised at their stance on this. There is an appalling humanitarian crisis in Gaza and I think the BBC should have helped the DEC with its fundraising.
“The British people have proved themselves extremely generous in recent disasters such as the cyclone in Burma and crisis in the Congo. I think people should have been able to make their own judgement on whether or not to support the Gaza appeal.”
He added:
“The DEC is made up of highly respected emergency relief organisations and an appeal such as this has a huge impact on the work that they can do.”
More information on the appeal and how to make a donation can be found at www.dec.org.uk [1].
