Mike Penning visited Chutneys Indian Cuisine, 79-81 Waterhouse on Friday which has been voted best South Asian restaurant in Hemel Hempstead constituency and now goes through to the national round of the Tiffin Cup.
An annual event, “The Tiffin Cup” is sponsored by DictateNow and organised by a cross-party group of Members of Parliament. Each MP can select one South Asian restaurant from their constituency and this is then whittled down to a final round held in London. The MP who chooses the winning restaurant can nominate a charity, and that charity will receive a package of free dictations and a free dictation machine.
Mike launched a competition to find the best South Asian restaurant in the Hemel Hempstead constituency through his website.
Handing over the certificate to the Khan family who own and run Chutneys Mike said: “Chutneys received a tremendous amount of support and I wish them all the best for the national stage of the competition and hope to see them at the final in London.”
Last year the Hemel nominee, Bengal Spice, got through the national round and was one of the final 14 restaurants who travelled to London to take part in the “cook-in” at the House of Commons. The winner of the national competition in 2006 was the Taj Mahal of Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.
