Local MP, Mike Penning, opened the Early Years Centre for pre-schoolers in South Hill.
The South Hill Centre is a registered charity set up by South Hill Church. Phase One, the Early Years Centre (EYC) is a joint venture with Heath Lane Nursery to provide pre-school activities and wrap-around care.
Mike enjoyed meeting the people behind the project as well as some of his younger constituents who are already enjoying the new centre.
After the visit, Mike Penning said: “I am thrilled to have opened this exciting community project which will be so beneficial for local people. It is great to see this thriving church meeting the needs of local people in this way. Working parents will be highly appreciative of the services offered here.”
Church leader, Brian Boggis, said “Throughout our work we demonstrate and communicate our Christian values by our professionalism, excellent educational standards, love, care and support for those who come to us in need. From our humble beginnings 50 years ago South Hill Church has become much more than a place where church services take place, it’s base from where we reach out to help make a real difference to the community in which we live.”
Phase Two involves re-developing the church’s site to provide improved facilities for the local community and church family. This should enable the church to provide groups for mother and toddlers, after-school clubs, adult learning ventures, and a lunch club for the elderly.
