Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning, joined Kings Langley School at the UK Rock Challenge Southern Regional Finals at The Guildhall, Portsmouth on Thursday evening (28th).

Mike said:

“The UK Rock Challenge is a fantastic event that enthuses and encourages young people to participate. The standard of the performances is incredible and the atmosphere is one of exuberance and excitement. It really was a thoroughly enjoyable evening – albeit a very late one!

“I congratulate Kings Langley School on getting to the regional finals. They produced outstanding performances and the investment in rehearsal time paid off.”

The Rock Challenge is an international music and dance competition for schools and colleges which focuses on driving home positive messages about substance misuse and crime prevention by providing young people with the opportunity to experience a ‘drug free high’. The UK Rock Challenge consistently attracts a high number of entries - 385 schools and colleges this year, involving 25,000 young people. The initiative is supported by police and businesses around the country and is seen to be a valuable contribution to a student’s Record of Achievement.

The benefits of participation in the UK Rock Challenge are widely recognised and include improved fitness, confidence, mutual support and sense of responsibility.

The UK Rock Challenge is part of a global phenomenon that originated in Australia, but has now spread to include New Zealand, UK, Ireland, Germany, South Africa and the USA.
