Mike Penning visited DHL to find out how the company coped following the devastating Buncefield explosion.
Mike was impressed with the ‘can-do’ attitude of employees at the DHL site and the teamwork involved in ensuring business carried on as usual in spite of difficulties caused by the disaster.
Mike met and talked to local staff and heard about the DHL operation in Hemel Hempstead, which equates to the pick-up of 1,250 packages and 1,400 shipments per day. He was interested in finding out about the wide area covered by the service centre.
Sharon Davies, Director of Corporate Affairs DHL Express UK & Ireland, who accompanied Mike on his visit, said: “We are grateful to Mike for his interest in the site and for his support since the disaster. As a company we are committed to working with MPs and the local community to provide a better provision of services to the local area and beyond.“
Mike said: “I am delighted to visit the DHL Service Centre in Boundary Way and learn about the work of DHL in Hemel Hempstead. The DHL operation in the town was one of the businesses devastated by the Buncefield explosion and, in common with much of the local business community, the staff faced a lot of hard work and determination to keep their business functioning. I am proud to meet the dedicated team who put in so much time and effort to rebuild their business.”
