Mike Penning MP has written to Herts Chief Constable, Frank Whiteley.

Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning, has written to the Chief Constable of Hertfordshire, Frank Whiteley to formally object to the closure of the police cells at Hemel Police Station.

In his letter, Mike told Mr Whiteley that he firmly believes the closure will result in less police on the streets of Hemel as officers waste time escorting prisoners to and from the police cells in Watford and Hatfield. Mike is further concerned that this will result in officers being reluctant to make arrests and instead issuing on-the-spot fines and cautions.

Mike made a formal request to the Chief Constable to consult with the elected representatives of the residents of Dacorum and the Herts Police Authority before any final decision is made on this.
