Mike Penning calls on the Defence Secretary to ensure our returning troops are well looked after when they get back from Iraq.

In response to a Commons statement from the Defence Secretary about troop movements in Iraq, Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, called on the Defence Secretary to ensure that our troops are well looked after on their return to the UK.

Mike Penning said:

”May I ask the Secretary of State to convey to the commanders of all our troops in Iraq how proud we are of them?”

He then went on to ask:

“Can we make sure that we look after the returning troops as much as possible, so that they do not come back, become disillusioned and leave the armed forces, and so that we do not lose the skills that we so desperately need?”

Mike Penning also praised the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, in which he served, who are leaving shortly for Iraq.
