Mike Penning MP welcomed Hemel Explorer Scouts to the Houses of Parliament and witnessed the investiture of nine new Explorers on the steps of Big Ben.
Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, welcomed a local group of Explorer Scouts to the Houses of Parliament on Thursday (17th June).
Mike had invited the Scouts to Parliament after member Georgie Brandon wrote to congratulate him on his re-election. 24 Explorers and 5 Leaders spent an hour and a half touring the Palace of Westminster, visiting the Commons and Lords Chambers and the famous Terrace on the banks of the Thames.
Following the tour, the investiture of nine new Explorers was held on the step of Big Ben.
Mike said:
“I welcome a great many local groups to the Houses of Parliament. It is a good opportunity for them to learn about the workings of their national government and also for me to learn about their work and activities in our community.
“It was particularly exciting to hold the investiture of new Explorers on the steps of Big Ben – this is the first time this has happened!”
Explorer Scouts is a section of the Scout Association for young people aged between 14 and 18 years old.
Hemel Explorer Scouts meet on Tuesdays at either Kings Langley Scout Hut or 3rd Boxmoor Scout Hut and on Thursdays at Leverstock Green Scout Hut from 8-10pm.
