Hemel MP Mike Penning visited the Sitar Restaurant in St John’s Road, Boxmoor on Friday (26th Sept) to present a chef’s jacket to Mr Atar Miah and his staff in recognition of the restaurant’s ‘Highly Commended’ award in the national ‘Best South Asian Restaurant’ competition – the Tilda Tiffin Cup.
The Tilda Tiffin Cup is an annual event organised by a cross-party group of Members of Parliament known as the Tiffin Club. Each MP nominates one South Asian restaurant from their constituency.
Mike Penning said:
“I am sure that local people will join me in congratulating Mr Miah and his chefs at the Sitar. Their award of ‘Highly Commended’ is well deserved and I am delighted to be able to present a specially monogrammed chef’s jacket. The Tiffin Cup has proved a great way to promote South Asian food both locally and throughout the country.”
This year’s competition also raised funds for Friends in Village Development Bangladesh and the breast cancer charity ROKO Cancer. Friends in Village Development Bangladesh work towards educational and socio-economic empowerment of disadvantaged people in rural Bangladesh, and ROKO Cancer has conducted 3000 mammograms within the areas of Punjab, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujrat and Maharashtra in the past 12 months.
The 2008 Tilda Tiffin Cup was won by ‘Mint and Mustard’ from the Cardiff North constituency and first runner-up was ‘The Chilli Raj’ from St Albans constituency.
