Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, visited the town’s Citizen’s Advice Bureau on Thursday 19th February and met with District Manager Eve Walker and Social Policy Co-ordinator Quiller Barrett.
They discussed the work they do for the local community and how they will cope in the expected increase in demand as the credit crunch bites.
Quiller Barrett said:
“The CAB is worried about how it can meet the increasing demand within its present resources, in spite of the fact that it recently secured money from the Citizens Advice National Association to fund extra hours a week of advice.”
He also offered this advice to anyone who is facing financial difficulties:
“It is vitally important that people do not bury their heads in the sand but they should seek advice early if they are in financial difficulty. The Citizens Advice website is a good place to start – www.adviceguide.org.uk”.
Mike said:
“The Citizen’s Advice Bureau provide an extremely valuable service for the people of Hemel Hempstead. They help and advise people when they most need it and often deal with incredibly complicated and delicate matters.”
“I was very interested to hear about the work they do and I was pleased to be able to express my thanks for all the work they have done on behalf of the people of Hemel. I can only reiterate Quiller’s advice that if you have a problem it is vital to seek advice as soon as possible.”
