MP congratulates local 'Tiffin Cup' winners

11 May 2009

Hemel MP, Mike Penning has presented certificates to the winners and runners-up of the Hemel Hempstead constituency nomination for the Tiffin Cup.

The Tiffin Cup is awarded each year by a cross-party group of Members of Parliament called the Tiffin Club. Each Member of Parliament is invited to nominate the best South Asian restaurant in their constituency.

Mike launched his competition to find the local nomination via The Hemel Hempstead Gazette and his website.

The winning restaurant was The Cinnamon Lounge of Kings Langley, second place went to The Taste of India also in Kings Langley. ‘Highly Commended’ certificates were awarded to K2 and the Gadebridge Balti.

Mike presented certificates to each and the winner will now go through to a regional round before final winners are chosen to cook for a select panel of judges at a special cook-in at Bellamy's Restaurant in the Houses of Parliament.

Mike said:

“This is a great opportunity to promote South Asian food and the high quality of our local restaurants.. I congratulate the winners and very much hope they get through to the final.”

Last year’s overall winner was ‘Mint and Mustard’ in Cardiff. The local nomination was Sitar Restaurant in Boxmoor who, as a result, were not eligible to enter this year.
