Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning welcomed children from Gadebridge youth club ‘Kids Zoo’ to the Houses of Parliament this week (Wed 27th May).
Mike gave the children a tour which they thoroughly enjoyed. They had prepared questions for their local MP and Mike was quizzed on a range of issues such as “why our hospital has closed” and “why many local shops are closing.”
‘Kids Zoo’ is a youth club for younger children (aged 7 to 13) and meets every other Friday, at the youth club in The Noke, Gadebridge. From a start-up of 5 members at Christmas last year, they now have an active membership of 21. The children themselves decide what they would like to do – and they also chose the name “Kids Zoo”. Recently they have had demonstrations from an artist, an African drummer and hopefully in the near future will have a pottery demonstration.
Mike presented the club with a cheque for £150 which had been donated in return for him completing a survey.
Kids Zoo meets from 6.30 – 8.30pm at Gadebridge Youth Club.
Cost is 50p per session and includes a drink, biscuit and piece of fruit.
Next meeting is Friday 5th June.
New members welcome.
The club is also in need of some more volunteers, for further information contact Dawn Harmsworth, on 07960 249240 or Karen Watts at Gadebridge Youth Club.
