MP Visits Local Schools

1 December 2005

One of the most enjoyable parts of the life of an MP is having the opportunity to meet so many different people and visit so many places. As a newly-elected MP, I am keen to meet as many local people as possible.

Over the past few months, I have been visiting Kings Langley’s schools. Having previously been to Kings Langley Secondary School and Sixth Form, I was invited to visit the JMI School in October. I had a thoroughly enjoyable visit and toured the school seeing everything from lessons in progress to lunch being prepared in the kitchen. I was enormously impressed by the professionalism of the staff and happiness of the pupils. The school has a clear commitment to its involvement with the community which is so important in a village such as Kings Langley.

Traffic

I share Kings Langley residents’ concerns about the obvious increase in traffic that will be generated by the new Ovaltine development. I am anxious to see the effects that such a large development will have on the surrounding road network. I have received several letters from residents of Kings Langley and I can reassure you that I am determined that the Highways Authority do not allow the High Street and village centre to become a rat run. We must watch the situation closely and please feel free to write to me at the House of Commons on this issue.

Happy Christmas

Finally, it was an honour and a joy to be invited to switch on Kings Langley’s Christmas Lights on Saturday 26th November. Christmas is such a special time of year for all of us and especially our children. The lighting of Christmas lights brings a welcome bit of cheer to our cold and dark Winter days.

I, for one, have had a remarkable year in 2005 – with the culmination in what has been a long journey to the House of Commons – I thank you all again for helping me fulfil that dream and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2006.
