New website

16 December 2006

To be a good Member of Parliament, it is important that I listen to the people who live in my constituency. Although I am fortunate enough to be able to talk to a great many people when I visit clubs, schools, churches and other organisations throughout the constituency, I am very aware that there are always people there who I don’t get to speak to and similarly there are many clubs etc that I don’t get time to visit.

As a result I have set up a new website www.tellmike.com which enables constituents to tell me what local and national issues concern them. I urge you to use it to let me know your views.

New Year Message

At this time of year when we celebrate Christmas and New Year, it is a time to take stock and look around us and be grateful for what we have. I am very lucky in that I will be spending the holiday season at home with my family.

As we look forward to the New Year ahead, it is traditionally a time to be optimistic about a better future, but not everyone is as lucky as this and we should take time to think and consider those less fortunate. Please join me and share a thought for our Armed Forces who start 2007 in far off lands away from their families and loved ones and in constant danger. Please think of those amongst us who may be homeless, the old and infirm and the lonely who spend the period on their own. And spare a thought for all those nurses, police, fire fighters and other public servants who arrive at work each day not knowing what lies ahead and who work selflessly to keep us safe.

Having said that, it is right to be optimistic and wish you all the very best for the year that lies ahead…
