Mike names Dacorum Rent Aid as Charity of 2006.
This year Mike Penning, MP for the Hemel Hempstead area, is supporting as his Charity of 2006, Dacorum Rent Aid. Mike said:
“To be homeless is a terrible thing and this charity provides a vital service to the homeless in Dacorum. Imagine that for whatever reason you have hit on bad times, you have little or no money, you may be unemployed and you find yourself homeless. Our council do a super job trying to house those in need but their resources are limited and they can not help everyone. You turn to the private sector to rent a roof over your head and find that they all require one month rent in advance and one month rent deposit. This could amount to well over £1,000 and you just don’t have it. What can you do, are you trapped? Well, this is where I found Dacorum Rent Aid help. They lend the rent advance and deposit so that you can move in and afterwards they keep in touch on a regular basis and offer continuing support and advice.
I think this is a simple but vital service. The charity is run by volunteers and relies on donations to raise the funds to finance the loans. What a super job they do, they deserve all the support and help we can give. A donation form is available on my web site, www.mikepenning.com/rentaid [1] so please link now and be generous.”
Mike Penning is also supporting Dacorum Community Trust. They help by providing funds for many different worthy causes and even help individuals in trouble with grants of monies for essentials. A recent case involved a battered wife who fled her home, with her young daughter and just the clothes on their backs. DCT provided a grant for them to buy clothes and essentials to help them rebuild their lives. More details of this charity and the work that they do can be found on www.mikepenning.com/dct [2].
