Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, has co-sponsored an Early Day Motion tabled in the House of Commons calling for the Home Secretary to sack Sir Ian Blair, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.
The motion “deplores the continued lack of leadership offered by the accident-prone Commissioner of Police” and “is concerned by the evident loss of confidence in him by many Metropolitan Police officers and the wider community”.
With the recent apology given by the Met and the release of two suspects in the Forest Gate raid without charge, an increasing number of MPs and, more importantly, the community feel that the time has come for new leadership of the Met. Speaking afterwards, Mike Penning said: “Sir Ian Blair can only be a successful Commissioner for London if he carries the confidence of not only his officers, but also the general public. It seems that he doesn’t carry that support from either side.” |
