Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, has co-sponsored a House of Commons Early Day Motion calling for a review of sentencing guidelines.
“It is appalling that a convicted paedophile who abducted and sexually abused a three year old girl could be back on the streets before she even finished primary school,” he said.
“This little girl has had her life ruined and I cannot imagine the heartache and hurt caused to her parents and family. My deepest sympathies go out to them. This family deserves better from our justice system,” he added. The motion calls for “an urgent review of the sentencing guidelines of people convicted of child sex offences and other serious crimes of sexual violence, including the eligibility of those sentenced for early release, in order to re-establish public confidence in the criminal justice system.” |
